EDITORIAL COMMENTS 2-1-99
Well since this is the first Editorial, I will attempt to keep
it short and to the point. I believe it is only fitting to devote some
discussion to the Honorable Edwin Meese III ex-Attorney General of the
United States. For those of you not familiar with Mr. Meeses contribution
to our way of life, let me explain. Mr. Meese, and a number of his associates,
became convinced that there was a direct link between pornography that
depicted violence and actual violent acts. He appointed(and chaired I believe)
a commission which then spent a good deal of time and taxpayer money to
"investigate" this theory. After a great deal of testimony and half baked
medical opinions, coupled with a tremendous amount of media hype, the Meese
commission concluded that there was indeed a link. The result of this obvious
foolishness is why we saw an immediate and drastic change in the cover
art of our favorite magazines. Gone were the "Damsel-in-distress" themes
to be replaced with the dull "Babe-posing-with-gun" covers that bore us
today. I submit for your consideration that if we were to hold individuals
responsible for there own actions, instead of forcing some puritanical
nonsense upon the general populous we would all be safer and happier today.
What do you think?
